Savoring Advent

This time of year truly is magical.

Each night (well 90 percent of the time) we make the time to read our advent book; Ryan (my husband/kids Dad) reads aloud and the kids color. It is not always peaceful with the kids laughing with one another when they should be listening or even fighting each other.

But for the reason of Advent we take the time to read and remember what this season is all about. As I was listening aloud to my husband read tonight and looking around to my kids actually being quiet and listening. It dawned on me that I wish we did this every night, not just the season of Advent or even we do something during the season of Lent. This should be an every night, always kind of a thing. Not just during different holidays of the year.

Now we as a homeschool family do a small family devotional together before we start our school day, but there is something so sweet and intimate of us all being together as a whole family reading and studying God’s Word.

The definition of Advent is the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. And shouldn’t we always be in this state? I mean I don't know about you but, I am so looking forward to the day when Jesus returns to this earth and takes me home. If you have no idea what I am talking about, please email and we can talk further.

I do a word every year that I try to stick with and remember throughout the whole year, This last year was consistency and I failed miserably at it! I don't know as a mom of four who homeschools, and each kid does different activities throughout the year, if it’s possible for me to have consistency? But I surely did not this year.

I am truly rambling but, it is definitely something to ponder this last couple weeks of the year.

Do you stay in a constant state of Advent throughout the year?
